Pressings Case Study

Complex shapes can easily be produced in progression press tools. Materials can be folded double to give thick sections where it is needed and contoured to give a wide variety of profiles.

The example above is a copper pin which needs to have good strength between the jaws and have a 4.8mm x 0.8mm tab terminal for connection purposes. The material cost is kept low by folding the material over to create the correct thickness for the tab terminal.

When components are manufactured in high volumes, huge savings can be made by optimising material usage and adopting high speed processing methods.
