Contact Welding

Contact Welding Case Study

Springs that need to switch high voltages have to have good wear properties. One of the methods used is silver plating, which is very costly if any significant thickness is required.

The spring shown above has a silver contact welded in the working area. This contact is 0.6mm high and can be switched under load thousands of times before it will wear out.

The process of welding silver contacts is fully automated, which makes it very cost effective for volume production.
